The FFJR Charter

1
FFJR-certified fasting retreats are free from any political, partisan, or religious affiliation.

2
The FFJR offers well-being fasting retreats of the Buchinger type (water, herbal teas, filtered broths, and diluted fruit and/or vegetable juices) lasting 7 days or less, combined with walking in nature as the main activity.

3
FFJR-certified retreats are intended for healthy adults (who do not require medical supervision). FFJR-certified Fasting Guides commit to obtaining informed written consent and ensuring that the participant’s state of health allows for fasting.

4
All FFJR-certified retreats are led by FFJR-certified Fasting Guides, ensuring qualified supervision for both fasting and hiking.

5
Certified Fasting Guides must immediately contact a doctor at the slightest concern about a participant’s health. The FFJR prohibits any practice that could be considered illegal medical practice.

6
Certified Fasting Guides are responsible for the entire group of fasters during the entire retreat and are required to sleep on-site or within a maximum of 10 minutes from the center.

7
FFJR-certified Fasting Guides share information about fasting, nutrition, and lifestyle strictly within the realm of well-being, without using medical language (e.g., "healing," "therapeutic").

8
FFJR-certified Fasting Guides use natural, organic, and preferably local products, and offer a stay free of alcohol, tobacco, and drugs.

9
FFJR-certified Fasting Guides adhere to basic principles of kindness, discretion, and professional restraint.

10
As part of a quality control process, FFJR-certified Fasting Guides are required to offer each participant a Quality Feedback Questionnaire during each retreat.

11
FFJR-certified Fasting Guides commit to respecting applicable laws and regulations in the field, and to reporting any difficulties, adverse events, or incidents to the board so the Federation can implement improvement measures to enhance safety for all.

12
FFJR-certified Fasting Guides must be properly insured and meet all administrative requirements necessary to practice professionally.

13
The FFJR is committed to preventing sectarian deviation within its centers. Centers and their staff commit not to claim therapeutic outcomes for illnesses through fasting, and not to make statements that could be interpreted as encouraging people to abandon conventional medicine.

14
The FFJR regularly monitors and evaluates whether certified centers uphold the values, framework, and ethical code of the FFJR.

15
FFJR-certified Fasting Guides commit to transparency regarding retreat prices, related expenses, and their remuneration.

16
FFJR-certified Fasting Guides agree to cooperate with relevant health and wellness regulatory authorities if required.

17
FFJR-certified Fasting Guides are required to hold a valid first aid certification (PSC1) and to participate in at least one continuing education session per year focusing on legal, ethical, or health-related aspects of fasting.

18
FFJR-certified Fasting Guides commit to displaying the FFJR logo on their communication materials and publishing this charter on their website.

19
Certified Fasting Guides display this charter along with the “Important Information” document, which includes contact details and states that the retreat is led by a non-medical professional certified by the FFJR.
