The Benefits of Fasting

Take the time to disconnect to better reconnect with yourself

Flora

My second fast with Claire. I felt the benefits from the very first one, so I didn’t hesitate to do it again.

Physically, it gave me incredible energy.
Mentally, it allowed me to take a step back and reflect on my life. It gave me the mental clarity I truly needed at that moment to make the right choices.

I feel lucky to have discovered fasting with Claire. Although I was worried about this first experience, Claire reassured me and supported me in the weeks leading up to it.

Once there, nothing was left to chance. She anticipated everything and was attentive to everyone’s needs.

It was a true bubble of well-being, good spirits, simplicity, and respect, carried by Claire’s wonderful energy.

I arrived feeling emotionally drained, but with complete trust. The energy Claire brings to the group helps everyone get through the small challenges of the body’s resistance.

There is joy and a deep respect for each person’s pace. The hikes helped me especially. I left feeling emotionally uplifted.

A few weeks later, the result is undeniable: fewer fears when facing everyday challenges, and a new sense of confidence in my body and its ability to reinvent itself.

I have been fasting for at least one week every year since 2019. La Lune Rose was my most recent experience, in the fall of 2025.

I loved the support from Claire and from the entire team she has brought together around her.

The house is magnificent, the setting enchanting—and being surrounded by beauty is pure happiness.

My first question was: how could I find my place and feel truly welcomed in such an exceptional setting?

The path unfolded naturally, with simplicity and freedom. The environment is so reassuring—not to impose rules, but to offer care and kindness, and to provide support.

I returned to my daily life with many insights and a renewed confidence in the strength my body holds.

The Benefits of Fasting and the Nobel Prize in Medicine

Japanese researcher Yoshinori Ohsumi devoted his life to understanding what happens physiologically during fasting. Although the positive effects of fasting had been observed for centuries, the underlying biological mechanisms remained unclear. Thanks to modern biology, Yoshinori Ohsumi shed light on the central phenomenon that occurs during fasting: autophagy—a natural process through which cells break down and recycle their damaged components.

This discovery helped explain how fasting stimulates this essential cellular self-cleaning mechanism, which plays a key role in health:

  • Cellular cleansing: removal of accumulated waste and toxins

  • Regeneration: repair and renewal of cells

  • Strengthening of the immune system

  • Prevention of certain diseases: including neurodegenerative and cardiovascular diseases, as well as some cancers

  • Improved longevity and vitality

About Microbia

Fasting has several positive effects on the gut microbiota, the ecosystem of billions of microorganisms essential to our health. Here are the main benefits observed:

1. Rebalancing of the intestinal flora

During a fast, the absence of food reduces the proliferation of pathogenic bacteria (linked to inflammation or digestive disorders) and promotes good bacteria, particularly those involved in the repair of the intestinal mucosa.

2. Reduction of intestinal inflammation

Digestive rest reduces exposure to irritants (additives, sugars, processed foods), which soothes chronic colon inflammation and promotes regeneration of the intestinal wall.

3. Improved intestinal permeability

Fasting helps restore the integrity of the intestinal barrier, limiting the phenomenon of "leaky gut" (intestinal hyperpermeability), often linked to autoimmune or inflammatory diseases.

4. Stimulation of beneficial bacteria

Some studies show that intermittent or prolonged fasting can increase microbial diversity, a key indicator of a healthy microbiota, and boost strains associated with longevity.

5. Better insulin sensitivity and regulated metabolism

A balanced microbiota promotes better glucose management, and fasting strengthens this link by improving communication between the gut, liver, and brain.

Fasting and Mental Health

Fasting does not act only on the body—it also changes one’s inner state. On a biological level, it stimulates the production of BDNF (Brain-Derived Neurotrophic Factor), a protein that supports brain plasticity, communication between neurons, and emotional adaptability. This mechanism is associated with improved mood, reduced perceived stress, and an increased sense of inner stability.

“Practiced for thousands of years, studies have highlighted the role of fasting in adaptive cellular responses capable of reducing oxidative damage and inflammation, optimizing energy metabolism, and strengthening cellular protection.

In simple eukaryotic organisms, chronic fasting extends longevity, partly through a reprogramming of metabolic and stress-resistance pathways.

In rodents, intermittent or periodic fasting protects against diabetes, certain cancers, cardiovascular disease, and neurodegenerative disorders. In humans, it contributes to reducing obesity, hypertension, asthma, and rheumatoid arthritis.

Thus, fasting has the potential to delay aging and to prevent or support the treatment of numerous diseases, while limiting the side effects associated with chronic dietary interventions.

A human and relational adventure

Beyond the physical and mental benefits, fasting is also a human experience. In a group setting, everyone goes through the detox process in a spirit of listening and kindness. These shared moments foster sincere, non-judgmental exchanges, where we learn to better understand others... and ourselves.

Fasting retreats are often the starting point for lasting friendships, fueled by shared values. But everyone is free to take the time they want to be with themselves, according to their current needs.

This climate of respect, tolerance and humanity allows us to regain confidence: in ourselves, in others, and in the future.
